The International Peace Award

Peace has been essence of the Omani policy in terms of strategy and approach since His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said came to throne at the start of the modern Omani Renaissance. Adoption of such a peaceful approach is based on the fact that the construction and national development and establishment of a modern state requires the provision of essential requirements which are topped by a locally, regionally and internationally suitable climate. Bearing in mind peace is indivisible; it is highly esteemed by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman. Therefore, peace is the center of moderate Omani policies at Gulf, regional and international levels. Thanks to the instructions of His Majesty and his deep belief in peace, the Sultanate of Oman enjoys the ability and courage not only to express with utmost clarity and openness its attitudes and point of view regarding different situations and developments on the Gulf, Arab and international levels, but Oman also worked hard to put this into practice in its relations with other countries. When 10 of the most famous American universities, in addition to a large number of centers of research and political and strategic studies that are worldwide acclaimed highly esteem the policies of His Majesty the Sultan and the role of His Majesty plays in the achievement and maintenance of peace, this clearly reflects the extremely significance of the achievements of that great Arab figure. His Majesty is the first leader to be awarded this prize since it began in 1998.

The Silk Road

The Sultanate of Oman adopted the global call launched by the UNESCO to study the Silk Road and the ancient trade that were exchanged by land and sea caravans between the peoples of the world.

Given the civilization importance of the project and the geographical location of Oman site and the role it played in the process of human communication between East and West, Oman has played a leading role in the voyage of the Silk Road. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has allocated his own Royal yacht ‘Folk As-Salamah’ [i.e. Safety Boat] with all its crew to be used by UNESCO staff for the journey. Such a kind gesture was in recognition of His Majesty to the scientific returns of the UNESCO’s study and its positive results as it would result in a number of important findings which can be used to increase the interchangeability among the peoples of the world.
